10U Travel Try-Outs Aug 5th and Aug 8th

CGSL wants to let you know about an exciting opportunity.  The information below is intended for girls with birth years of 2007 & 2008.

We will be hosting tryouts for a start up travel team.  Tryout details include:

Dates and Times:  Saturday August 5th from 9am to 11am and 1pm to 3pm. Tuesday August 8th from 6pm to 8pm.

Location:  7229 Ravenna Road (Concord Township field)

What to expect:

We will carry 11 players on our roster.  This means we need a full commitment from our families as you play 9 in the field.

We will enter into a fall league in South Euclid.  Sunday morning double headers starting in early Sept running for 6 weeks.

We will also look to enter 1 tournament in the fall in North Ridgeville called the Pumpkin Smash.  Weekend of Oct 6th

We will start indoor practices 2x/week after the first of the year.  This will continue up until we can get outside.

We may enter into a winter league depending on what is available.

We will enter approx. 5-6 tournaments next year as well.

Head Coach will be Dave Granchi.  Assistant coaches will be Nick Jeras and John Shantery.

Note:  We want this to be very clear to anyone joining our team.  We are starting this team to get a base of experienced travel players and coaches.  After this first year, the 2007 birth years will create a team coached by Nick Jeras and the 2008 birth years will stick with Coach Granchi.  This needs to be done in order to build a team that can grow together over the years.

Family Commitment:

Financially expect the cost range to be between $450-500.  This will include everything listed above.

Logistically expect to play in the Cleveland area for most of our play.   We will have no more than 2 overnight trips and very possibly only 1.  It will depend on the tournaments available.

Emotionally expect us to be together a lot and expect that the families of the players will build relationships.  We are not into nor do we want extra drama.  We want families that want to commit to this and want to enjoy each others company and watching their daughters play ball.  We always remain positive.

As a parent of a travel player, the coaches want you to practice with your daughters.  We want you to play catch, hit, and work on things we work on in practice outside of practice.  It does not have to be long periods of time but we want the girls to play catch and hit regularly (even if it is for 15 minutes/day).  There are plenty of personal coaches as well that we can put you in touch with.

Player Commitments/Expectations:

Team first. That includes being at practices and games. Also includes giving her best effort at all times and staying focused during practices and games.  We will have fun, but we also need to develop.

Positive attitude at all times.  Players play, Coaches coach, Umpires ump, and Parents cheer.  We all need to know our roles and respect one another.

Accept mistakes and learn from them.  This is how we get better.  There will be a lot to learn.  This game has a lot of strategy and a lot of fundamentals.  We need to be focused on both to grow.
